THE
​CONCEPT​

Flanders Art Fair is an international art fair featuring a curated selection of galleries. From Old Masters to modern and contemporary art, the fair brings together a wide and high-quality range of works for collectors from Flanders and neighbouring countries.

The fair focuses on works with strong art-historical and collectible value, presented by galleries with a clear positioning within the international art market. This creates a balanced and well-considered fair in which quality, expertise and market knowledge take centre stage.

Flanders Art Fair positions itself as a contemporary reincarnation of the historic Art and Antiques Fair in the Belfry: a place where old and new meet. Downstairs, established international galleries present their collections, whilst upstairs, space is given to emerging talent through a curated selection.

THE EVENT BRINGS TOGETHER A CAREFULLY CURATED SELECTION OF GALLERIES, WITH A CLEAR FOCUS ON QUALITY, PROFESSIONALISM AND COLLECTABILITY. THESE GALLERIES ARE ACTIVE IN VARIOUS DISCIPLINES, RANGING FROM OLD MASTERS AND HISTORICAL WORKS TO MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY ART.

Flanders Art Fair builds on a strong tradition. The organisers have over 50 years’ experience in art fairs. They are no strangers to the belfry: from 1983 to 2002, they organised an international antiques fair there that enjoyed a strong reputation among exhibitors and collectors. The Bruges Antiques Fair featured galleries that we also recognise from TEFAF Maastricht.

With the Flanders Art Fair, this international dynamism returns to Bruges, as a contemporary continuation of an established fair, within a familiar and proven context.

A UNIQUE LOCATION,
THE BELFRY

The belfry is one of Belgium’s most iconic monuments and has been at the heart of this UNESCO World Heritage city for over seven centuries. Today, this site serves as the setting for the Flanders Art Fair.

The fair takes place in the impressive Gothic hall, characterised by stone columns and vaulted ceilings that create a monumental and elegant exhibition space. The tower and halls date from the 13th to the 15th century, when Bruges was a major European trading centre. Located on the Market Square, in the historic heart of the city, the Belfry is easily accessible and surrounded by several (underground) car parks.

IN A CITY SHAPED BY ART,

​Bruges is one of the cradles of European painting. Masters such as Jan van Eyck and Hans Memling worked here and made the Flemish Primitives a global reference point. The city is also home to one of the rare works by Michelangelo to be found outside Italy: Madonna and Child.

Bruges is furthermore one of the most visited cultural cities in Europe. In 2024, the historic city centre welcomed almost 8 million international tourists, representing more than 9 million visitors when regional visitors are also included. This constant flow of international visitors, attracted by art, heritage and gastronomy, makes the city an exceptional destination for culture and tourism.

In 2026, Bruges has strengthen its position as a city of art with the opening of BRUSK, the art hall for contemporary and ancient art. This project is one of the largest investments in art made by the Flemish government in recent decades and has been declared a top Flemish event in 2026.

Together with the Groeninge Museum and the Gruuthuse Museum, this will create an exceptional cultural landscape in the capital of West Flanders.
